History

In August 2012, the state's board of higher education approved OSU's plan to expand the campus into a four-year school. Oregon State planned to add freshman and sophomore classes as early as 2015, though it was not decided as to if the current location would be used or if a new campus would be built.

During the 2013 legislative session, the Oregon Legislative Assembly approved $16 million in construction bonds to finance a new, expanded four-year campus in Bend for OSU-Cascades. The state bonds will be supplemented by $8 million in philanthropic funds and campus-supported bonds for a financing package totaling $24 million with university officials looking over suitable sites that would cover the campus' proposed 40 to 60 acre footprint.

Currently, students at OSU Cascades who are interested in serving in Army ROTC can do so, despite the school not having its own battalion. These Cadets are members of the Oregon State University Army ROTC battalion, and participate in field training exercises at nearby National Guard installations alongside Cadets from Oregon State University (Corvallis campus) and Western Oregon University, while conducting military science classes and physical training at their home campus in Bend.
